Write protected USB

Sometimes when you use a USB stick for a non-Windows OS boot, it becomes "write protected". Some devices, especially Kingston DataTravelers, turn write protection on by default to protect against accidental format.

WARNING: THIS WILL ERASE ANY DATA ON STICK.

  • Right-click on USB device
  • Select Properties
    • Hardware Tab

    • Properties
      • Policies tab
        • Select "Performance" option
        • Click OK
      • This will usually result in "Format disk" popup"
      • You can format it from here
